Honda Hits Half-Million Side-by-Side Milestone at South Carolina Plant

Honda has just rolled past a major milestone in the off-road world: the half-millionth Honda side-by-side has officially come off the assembly line at its South Carolina Manufacturing (SCM) facility in Timmonsville. The machine that marked the occasion? A Pioneer 1000—one of Honda’s most versatile and recognized SxS models.

A Legacy of Honda Side-by-Side American-Built Powersports

The Timmonsville plant has been turning out Honda powersports products for 27 years. What began in 1998 with the Foreman 400 ATV has evolved into a massive 950,000-square-foot operation that now serves as the exclusive global home for Honda side-by-sides.

Since its opening, SCM has produced more than 3.8 million powersports machines, including ATVs, AquaTrax personal watercraft, and now the entire Pioneer and Talon lineups. Over that time, Honda has invested more than $460 million into the facility, securing its role as a cornerstone of the brand’s American manufacturing presence.

The People Behind the Honda Side-by-Side

While the half-million mark for Honda side-by-side is impressive on paper, Honda made sure the celebration focused on the people who make it possible. Associates gathered on August 6 as veteran Honda employee Glascow Montgomery—who’s been with the company since 2001—drove the milestone Pioneer 1000 off the line.

Montgomery has piloted countless machines through final inspection, but his approach remains the same: “I want to make sure these units are perfect for our customers,” he said. That means checking everything from engine tone to steering and lights before each SxS gets shipped out.
