New King of the Desert: Heger’s Triumphant Dakar Victory for Polaris

Rookie Brock Heger and Max Eddy Jr. Dominate the 2025 Dakar Rally in Polaris RZR Pro R Factory

Victory for Polaris in a performance that will be remembered as one of the most dominant in Dakar Rally history, rookie driver Brock Heger and navigator Max Eddy Jr. claimed victory in the Side-by-Side (SSV) category of the 2025 Dakar Rally. Piloting the Polaris RZR Pro R Factory, the American duo conquered the grueling 12-stage race with a commanding two-hour margin over their closest competitors.

Unprecedented Victory for Polaris RZR Factory Racing

The win marks the second consecutive Dakar Rally victory for Polaris RZR Factory Racing and Sébastien Loeb Racing (SLR). Heger and Eddy Jr. showcased unparalleled skill, consistency, and resilience, leading the SSV field of 39 competitors from 15 countries for 10 consecutive stages. Their journey through the challenging 4,815-mile (7,749 km) route was a testament to their teamwork and the precision engineering of the RZR Pro R Factory.

“Winning Dakar is the pinnacle of our sport,” said Heger. “Max’s experience and navigation were key to our success, and the RZR Pro R Factory was flawless throughout the rally. To achieve this alongside my close friend and just months after winning the Baja 1000 is beyond what I could have imagined.”

The Path to Victory

Heger and Eddy Jr. employed a strategy of calculated consistency and control. Over 12 stages, they secured one stage win, nine podium finishes, and placed in the top five in all but one stage. Their cumulative time of 59 hours, 13 minutes, and 11 seconds demonstrated both the team’s endurance and the exceptional reliability of the Polaris RZR Pro R Factory. Key highlights from their Dakar journey include:

  • Stage 1: Despite a malfunctioning onboard roadbook, the team finished third, showcasing early resilience.
  • Stage 2: A dominant stage win propelled them to second overall.
  • Stage 4: The duo claimed the overall lead by navigating towering dunes and open plains.
  • Stage 5: Challenging technical terrain saw them extend their lead to over an hour before the rest day.
  • Stages 7-10: Consistent top finishes, even under penalty setbacks, solidified their dominance with a nearly two-hour advantage heading into the final stages.

Victory for Polaris RZR Pro R Factory: A Race Machine Built for Victory

The Polaris RZR Pro R Factory’s superior design and durability were central to the team’s success. Built to FIA SSV Class standards, the vehicle boasts a race-tuned ProStar Fury 2.0L engine, FOX® Factory Race ESC EVO 3.0 Internal Bypass shocks, and a high-strength, lightweight chassis. Despite being tailored for rally racing, the RZR Pro R Factory features core components available to everyday consumers, emphasizing its durability and reliability under the harshest conditions.

“Starting the season with another Dakar win following our Baja 1000 success is monumental,” said Alex Scheuerell, RZR Factory Racing Technical Director. “This achievement underscores Polaris’ commitment to engineering excellence and the relentless efforts of our team.”

Team Highlights and Future Aspirations

The victory cements Polaris and Sébastien Loeb Racing as leaders in the Dakar Rally, with teammate Xavier de Soultrait’s strong performance also contributing to the team’s overall success. While mechanical issues late in the rally dropped de Soultrait to 21st overall, his early-stage victories and consistent top finishes underscored the team’s depth and resilience.

With back-to-back wins, Polaris RZR Factory Racing has set a high bar for the 2025 off-road racing season. The team’s historic Dakar performance solidifies their place at the pinnacle of off-road motorsports.
