Dakar 2025 Will Never Be the Same: Can-Am’s Maverick R Breaks New Ground

Can-Am is raising the stakes for the 2025 Dakar Rally with the debut of its revolutionary Maverick R platform. The iconic brand, part of BRP Inc., has announced that it will compete in the T4 Side-by-Side Vehicle (SSV) Class with a stellar team of factory drivers and support from South Racing. This marks a significant milestone as the Maverick R platform hits the FIA-sanctioned Rally Raid scene for the first time.

A Powerhouse Driver Lineup

Can-Am has assembled a team of seasoned racers to pilot the Maverick R through the grueling 12-day, 8,000-kilometer race in Saudi Arabia. The lineup includes:

  • Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez (Chile) – Three-time Dakar UTV Champion and 2022 World Rally Raid T3 Champion.
  • Sara Price (USA) – 2023 Dakar Rally stage winner and trailblazing female driver.
  • Hunter Miller (USA) – 2020 King of the Hammers UTV Champion.
  • Jeremias Gonzalez Ferioli (Argentina) – Three Dakar Rally stage wins to his name.

“The Dakar Rally is always the focal point of our racing calendar,” said Jean-Francois Leclerc, BRP Race Manager. “With the Maverick R and an exceptional team of drivers, we are ready to push boundaries and achieve great results.”

Revolutionary Maverick R Platform

The Maverick R, introduced in 2024, has already proven itself in iconic desert races such as Vegas to Reno, the Silver State 300, and the Baja 1000. Its unique features include:

  • Tall-Knuckle Suspension Design: Delivers superior handling and stability.
  • High-Performance Rotax Engine: A turbo-charged, three-cylinder powerhouse.
  • Seven-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission: Ensures peak performance in challenging terrains.

These advancements make the Maverick R ideally suited for the rugged terrain of Saudi Arabia, where the 2025 Dakar Rally will unfold.

Can-Am’s Legacy at Dakar

Since 2018, Can-Am and South Racing have dominated the Dakar Rally, securing six consecutive wins with the Maverick X3 platform. The 2025 race ushers in a new era as the Maverick R aims to continue this legacy of success.
