2027 Kawasaki TERYX H2: Same 250 HP, Much Less Machine

Kawasaki did not give its supercharged TERYX H2 more power for 2027. It gave the engine less machine to move.

The new two-seat, two-door 2027 TERYX H2 keeps the 999cc supercharged inline-four and Kawasaki’s claimed 250 horsepower, but puts it in a chassis with a 101-inch wheelbase. Against the closest 2026 TERYX4 H2 equivalents, the new machine is about 25 inches shorter between the axles and roughly 200 pounds lighter. It also costs less.

That makes the two-seater a genuine addition to Kawasaki’s supercharged side-by-side program, not a light model-year refresh. KTRC traction control is standard on both trims, and the Limited eS introduces KECS+ electronic suspension with a continuously managed sway bar. The important rider story is not a bigger dyno number. It is a potentially sharper power-to-weight ratio and a chassis better suited to drivers who do not need a second row.

This is an addition, not a direct replacement.

The comparison needs one qualifier: Kawasaki did not sell a two-seat TERYX H2 for 2026. The first 2026 TERYX4 and TERYX5 H2 lineup consisted of four- and five-seat machines. For 2027, Kawasaki is adding a more compact two-seat branch rather than simply shortening the existing model’s name.

The closest apples-to-apples reference is therefore the 2026 TERYX4 H2: base against base, and Limited eS against Deluxe eS. The four-seat and five-seat models remain the better fit for buyers who actually use the rear seats. The two-seater is for drivers who want the H2 engine without hauling a second row everywhere they go.

Same engine, different mission

The powertrain is familiar. Kawasaki lists a 999cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke inline-four with a factory supercharger, dual overhead cams, 16 valves and a 9,500-rpm redline. Claimed output remains 250 hp at 9,000 rpm under ISO 4106, with 146.3 lb-ft of torque at 8,800 rpm. A continuously variable transmission supplies high, low, and reverse ranges, and the driver can choose full-, mid-, or low-power delivery.

Those carryover numbers should not be mistaken for no change in performance potential. Using Kawasaki’s current dry-weight specifications, the 2027 base model carries about 8.34 pounds per claimed horsepower, versus about 9.16 for the 2026 TERYX4 H2 base. The Limited eS works out to roughly 8.66 pounds per horsepower, versus 9.45 for the 2026 Deluxe eS. That does not predict a stopwatch result, but it explains why the chassis change matters.

Kawasaki’s 250-hp claim also needs context. ISO 4106 is not necessarily the same measurement convention used in every competitor’s advertising, so cross-brand horsepower rankings are not perfectly controlled comparisons. The 2027 Polaris RZR Pro R Boost, for example, carries a manufacturer claim of 275 hp. Both figures are useful within their own product stories, but the better comparison will be independently measured acceleration, heat management and wheel horsepower.

The big numbers are wheelbase and weight.

The shorter wheelbase and tighter turning circle should make switchbacks, direction changes and line corrections easier. The lower mass should also help the engine, brakes and suspension work with less inertia. Kawasaki lowers the occupants’ hip point by about 10 mm and says full-lock steering takes less than one turn of the wheel, further stressing the two-seater’s more direct brief.

There is a tradeoff. Payload falls to 732 pounds, which is still useful for two occupants and gear but well below the four-seater’s 1,076-pound rating. A short wheelbase can also feel busier in chop and more reactive at speed. Those behaviors need a real trail test; they should not be declared from a spec sheet.

KTRC is new—and limited to 2WD

The two-seat H2 is the first Kawasaki side-by-side with Kawasaki Traction Control, or KTRC. The system compares wheel behavior and manages engine output when it detects excessive rear-wheel spin. Drivers can choose two intervention levels or switch it off.

The catch is important: KTRC functions only in 2WD. It is not a four-wheel, brake-based traction system that independently clamps a spinning corner. In practical terms, it should help a driver meter 250 hp on loose hardpack or other low-grip surfaces in rear drive, but it does not replace 4WD or the selectable front differential lock when the trail turns technical.

That calibration could make the base machine easier to manage for more drivers. Still, only an instrumented or back-to-back test can show how smoothly it intervenes and whether experienced drivers will prefer either mode over Off.

KECS+ is the Limited eS model’s real upgrade

The premium 2026 Deluxe eS already had Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension, FOX 3.0 Live Valve shocks, an inertial measurement unit and suspension acceleration sensors. The genuinely new piece for the 2027 Limited eS is the “plus.”

KECS+ integrates an electronically controlled sway bar with the live-valve dampers. Kawasaki says the system continuously adjusts both damping and roll resistance. In principle, that lets it preserve body control in corners while relaxing the chassis when the terrain calls for more articulation. The driver selects Firm, Sport or Comfort from the cockpit.

That is a more consequential upgrade than simply adding another shock preset. A conventional sway bar always represents a compromise between roll stiffness and independent wheel movement. An actively managed bar can move that compromise during the ride. How quickly, naturally, and reliably Kawasaki’s calibration works will be one of the biggest questions for the first independent test.

The Limited eS also includes beadlock wheels, a roof, a 10-inch Garmin Tread navigation display, and an audio system with two 6.5-inch door speakers and two 2-inch tweeters. The base model uses manually adjustable FOX 3.0 internal-bypass shocks and non-beadlock aluminum wheels, and it omits the roof, navigation, and audio package. Both retain a 7-inch TFT instrument display.

What carries over from 2026

Kawasaki has not abandoned the long-travel formula. The new machine keeps 23.2 inches of front travel and 24 inches at the rear, 33-inch Maxxis Carnivore Plus tires, dual 270 mm front brake discs, a 258 mm rear disc, a 14.8-gallon fuel tank, and a 300-pound cargo-bed rating. Base ground clearance remains 16.1 inches.

That means the two-seater is shorter, not smaller in every direction. Its track width, suspension travel, tire package, and core powertrain still make it a wide, high-performance side-by-side.

Pricing makes the base model especially interesting.

The new base model undercuts the 2026 four-seat base by $4,300 at MSRP, or $4,700 after the listed destination charges. The Limited eS is $1,800 less at MSRP, or $2,200 less with destination included.

Against Polaris’s official $49,999 starting price for the 275-hp RZR Pro R Boost, the Kawasaki starts $17,100 lower at MSRP; even the Limited eS is $8,600 lower. That does not make them identical machines or settle the performance question. Still, it does make Kawasaki’s base trim one of the more provocative price-to-claimed-power propositions in the category.

Two seats do not make it a narrow-trail machine.

The 2027 TERYX H2 is still 74 inches wide. Buyers looking for something that fits 64-inch routes should not confuse the shorter wheelbase with a narrower footprint. Kawasaki’s 64-inch TERYX KRX 1000 TR targets a different kind of access and trail environment.

The two-seat H2 should be easier to place lengthwise and rotate through tighter corners than the TERYX4 H2, but gates, legal trail-width limits, trailers and storage spaces still need to accommodate a 74-inch machine.

The 2026 CVT recall leaves one unanswered question.

The powertrain carries baggage from the first model year. In June 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 3,585 model-year 2026 TERYX4 H2 and TERYX5 H2 vehicles because the movable drive-clutch sheave could break and send fragments through the clutch cover. The notice cited 19 reports and no injuries. The repair calls for replacing the sheave, installing a clutch-cover guard, and reprogramming the ECU.

SXS Nation has a separate explainer on the 2026 TERYX H2 recall and repair. The 2027 two-seat models are not named in that recall. Still, Kawasaki’s launch information does not plainly state whether the new machines leave the factory with the updated sheave, guard and related calibration. That is a reasonable pre-purchase question for Kawasaki and dealers—not evidence that the 2027 is affected.

The distinction matters because an independent 2026 test by Car and Driver also reported a CVT temperature warning during repeated full-throttle running. That does not establish a defect in the 2027 model. It does make sustained-load heat management another item worth testing rather than assuming.

Kawasaki’s launch numbers need cleanup.

Kawasaki’s live product pages provide a coherent current specification set, but the launch press release contains remnants that should be corrected. A section is labeled “2026 TERYX H2 KEY FEATURES,” despite describing the 2027 two-seater. Early weight figures differ from the current product sheets. The release also repeats a 9.4-pound-per-horsepower figure that does not match the published 2027 Limited eS dry weight and 250-hp claim; those numbers calculate to about 8.66 pounds per horsepower.

There is also a suspension-language conflict. Kawasaki’s marketing copy and release call the KECS+ modes Firm, Sport and Comfort, while a live specification PDF retains Soft, Normal and Firm language. None of those discrepancies change the central story, but buyers and dealers deserve one clean set of specifications.

Verdict: the chassis is the headline

The 2027 Kawasaki TERYX H2 does not win attention with a bigger engine claim. It earns it by taking the existing 250-hp H2 formula and removing a rear row, 25 inches of wheelbase, and about 200 pounds. KTRC provides a new layer of manageability in 2WD, and KECS+ gives the Limited eS a sophisticated answer to the usual stability-versus-articulation compromise.

The base model looks like the value story. The Limited eS makes sense for buyers who want live suspension, electronic roll control, navigation, audio, a roof and beadlocks in one factory package. Either way, the remaining questions are practical ones: real acceleration, CVT temperatures, KECS+ calibration and confirmation of the 2027 clutch hardware.

That is exactly why this launch matters. Kawasaki has supplied more than a new color and a spec-sheet reshuffle. It has created the version of the H2 that performance-focused two-seat buyers expected from the beginning.
